AVR Dragon + STK500 for $49

Looks like Atmel is doing a promotion. I paid $79 for my STK500. Now you’d get 2 top-of-the-line microcontroller dev boards for less than the price of one. Super useful for those strange times when you need to do some HV programming or want to prototype something fast!
AVRDEVKIT1-ND from DigiKey, its not in stock right now but looks like you can backorder it and it’ll ship in a few days.

I ordered one yesterday and it shipped today.

Note that the dragon isn’t very useful stock, unless you plan to do everything in-circuit. To use it for programming chips without adding ISP to your design, see http://www.instructables.com/id/EVM00HSXH6EZ7C8ZID/ (page 1 has a list of the parts needed to add headers and a ZIF socket).

Neat! I haven’t gotten mine yet (Damn you UPS!) but I will check it out. I was always annoyed that there wasnt a ZIF-Socket avr programmer but its only useful in rare situations

Well, you can’t do HV programming without something like the ZIF addition. You can do regular ISP though, just need a 6-pin cable to go from the Dragon to your board. For prototyping, I think I’m going to end up with the MCU in the STK500 but doing the ISP and emulation via the Dragon.

Oops, too late. Looks like it’s no longer in their catalog.
