Jellybeans are the cheap and ultra-common parts that one uses for electronics. Like 10k resistors, indicator LEDs, or 0.1uF caps
Don't forget that for Digikey reels, they're almost always available as "Digi-Reels" of smaller quantities
0603
Useful for boards with limited surface area. Not as small as 0402, but can still be hand-soldered and they use standard reel holders (0402 reel holders are more expensive). These may be harder to hand-solder than 0805, though, so if you are also using the components for hand-soldering and only want to stock one-size, 0805 may be a more appropriate 'general-purpose' choice.

We arbitrarily (well, not completely arbitrarily, but kinda close) decided to go with 0805 for our jellybeans. Not as big as 1206, but not as hard to solder as 0603!
